Australian Flag & 6m Flagpole Set: Everything You Need to Fly the Flag at Home
Looking for a flag pole and Australian flag? The FP1 kit includes a 6m anodised aluminium flagpole and a premium Australian-made National Flag, with all the rope, clips and fittings you need to get it flying. Designed for residential use and installs with basic DIY tools.
What’s in the kit
- FP1 flagpole: 6m total length in three 2m sections (stands approx. 5.5m once installed)
- Australian National Flag: 1800 × 900mm, knitted polyester, with header and loops ready to clip to the rope
- Halyard rope, cleat and clips
- PVC sleeve/spigot for the in-ground mount
- Installation instructions
Please note: this is an in-ground pole
The FP1 is self-supporting once it is concreted into the ground. It does not sit on a portable base. If you’d prefer not to dig and concrete, have a look at our wall-mounted flagpoles or flag bracket and pole kits.

The included Australian National Flag
A premium, Australian-made National Flag in the standard 1:2 ratio, finished with a header and loops that clip straight onto the halyard.
- Knitted polyester: lightweight, flies easily in a slight breeze and is ideal for calm to moderate outdoor conditions.
- Woven polyester: thicker, linen-look fabric with higher durability and more traditional look.
- Vibrant, lasting colour: tested ink formulations and decades of experience for optimal finish and feel.
- Built to last: hand-finished by experienced sewers, with reinforced seams to resist fraying.
- Easy care: wash with mild detergent to maintain colour and reduce wear. See our flag care guide.
How to install (DIY)
You’ll need: something to dig a hole, gravel (for drainage), concrete, electrical tape, and a level or plumb bob.
- Dig a hole approx. 300 mm diameter × 600 mm deep. Add 100 mm of gravel for drainage.
- Place the lower pole section inside the PVC sleeve/spigot provided. Secure with electrical tape if required.
- Position the lower section and sleeve in the hole, with the cleat facing the direction you want.
- Pour concrete to fully encase the PVC sleeve/spigot. Use a level or plumb bob to make sure the pole is upright.
- Allow a minimum of 3 days for the concrete to cure, then assemble the remaining sections following the diagram and attach your flag.

- Do not touch the pole during electrical storms.
- For added security, wrap the halyard once around the pole before cleating when the flag is flying.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need council approval to put up a flagpole?
Requirements vary by council, suburb and body corporate. We recommend checking with your local council or body corporate before you install.
Is this a free-standing flagpole?
It stands on its own without wall brackets or guy wires, but it must be concreted into the ground. It is not a portable-base pole.
Can I fly a bigger flag on this pole?
No. The maximum flag size for the FP1 is 1800 × 900 mm.
How long does installation take?
Digging and pouring is a straightforward DIY job. You then need to wait a minimum of 3 days for the concrete to cure before assembling the remaining sections and hoisting the flag.
What’s the difference between knitted and woven polyester?
Knitted polyester is lightweight and flies easily in a slight breeze. Woven polyester is a thicker fabric with a traditional linen look and higher durability. See our material guide for more detail.
How is it delivered?
The pole is packed as three 2 m lengths for easy transport. In-stock items are typically despatched the same business day if ordered before 12pm. However, delays may occur at times of high demand. See shipping information.
Can I buy the flag or pole separately?
Yes. Browse our Australian flags and DIY home flagpoles. Buying the kit gives you the combined kit price.
